mini vacas are always the best. just a couple days to regroup, ignore email and have no specific plan. provincetown in october proved to be the perfect spot to do just this.
we stayed at the fairbanks inn, recently under new ownership by the same guys who own the salt box inn. i fell in love with the simplistic decor highlighting the 1700s sea captain home. the location was convenient to commercial street and we were greeted each morning with a fresh breakfast.
the weather didn't allow for a bike (which would have been awesome - their trails through the dunes are not to be missed), but we still enjoyed the day exploring.
we would highly recommend victors for raw bar happy hour and joon for dinner. the east street market is a bit off the path, but worth it for breakfast or lunch sandwhiches (and not touristy which is an added bonus).
even though it wasn't beach weather, ptown is a great fall option - streets are still bustling, night life is strong, stores are having their end of season sales and you don't have to fight the crowds (as much). so quaint, so much character...
